Useful Information

Instructions for handling when the DPD warning lamp turns on.

NQR & FRR vehicles to meet Euro 5 emission standards are equipped with a DPD system. DPD includes an Oxidation catalyst to process CO, HC and a DPD filter that stores PM in the exhaust gas and burns it when it reaches a certain value. Incomplete PM combustion will cause the DPD warning lamp to appear on the instrument cluster.

When the DPD lamp appears, the following should be noted:

If the green warning lamp appears, the vehicle is in the process of automatically burning PM after the vehicle has traveled a distance or the exhaust gas pressure reaches the required burning value. At this time, the driver needs to maintain the running speed, do not turn off the engine to avoid interrupting the regeneration process until the warning lamp turns off (completing the process)

When the automatic regeneration process is interrupted, the amber DPD warning lamp will appear and blink. The driver needs to perform manual regeneration.

Procedure for manual regeneration:
  1. Park the vehicle in a safe place, away from flammable materials such as dry grass or scrap paper.
  2. For manual transmission vehicles, put the gearshift lever in the “N” position and apply the parking brake.
  3. The vehicle is idling. If your vehicle is equipped with a idle control knob, turn the knob all the way counterclockwise to reduce the engine speed to idling speed.
  4. Stop the PTO operation if your vehicle is equipped with a PTO. Turn off the PTO switch and the external throttle controller.
  5. Press the DPD switch.
  6.  The DPD manual regeneration indicator lamp (amber) will stop blinking and stay on, while the engine speed will automatically increase to start regeneration.
  7. Do not leave the vehicle during regeneration. The regeneration process is usually completed within 15 to 20 minutes.
  8. When the DPD manual regeneration indicator lamp (amber) turns off, the regeneration process is complete. After that, the vehicle can operate normally.

If the check engine warning lamp turns on, the vehicle speed will be limited to less than 60 km/h. The driver should quickly bring the vehicle to the nearest Isuzu dealer for inspection and repair.

In addition, to improve driver’s convenience, the driver can initiate regeneration using the DPD selectable regeneration feature. The driver can regenerate DPD as desired before the warning lamp turns on. The process is below:

  1. Park the vehicle in a safe place, away from flammable objects such as dry grass or scrap paper.
  2. The vehicle is operating in idle mode, the gear lever is placed in the “N” position for manual transmission vehicles and the parking brake is pulled. Run the engine in idle mode. If your vehicle is equipped with a idle control knob, turn this knob all the way counterclockwise to reduce the engine speed to idle speed.
  3. Press the DPD switch until the DPD manual regeneration indicator lamp (amber) turns on. The DPD manual regeneration indicator lamp (amber) will change from stay on to blinking.
  4. Press the DPD switch again.
  5. The DPD manual regeneration indicator lamp (amber) will stop blink and then stay on, and the engine speed will automatically increase and regeneration will begin.
  6. Do not leave the vehicle during regeneration. The regeneration process usually ends within 15 to 20 minutes.
  7. When the DPD manual regeneration indicator lamp (amber) turns off, the regeneration process is complete. You can then drive normally.
